Respectable Web Presence (Tip 1)

Posted on | May 31, 2010 | No Comments

This really only applies to anyone with a website or a blog.

If you are like me, you tend to work better late at night. After about ten, my creative juices start flowing and my energy abounds. Don’t get me wrong, this is a great thing but it’s crucial to be cautious. Ever heard the saying “Nothing good happens after midnight”? Well, maybe it’s just in my case but this saying rings too true. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve had a brilliant idea around two AM and decided to go crazy with it. Nothing wrong with that, right? Right. However, where I tend to go wrong is trying to implement my idea that night. The next morning I look at what I did and am forced, out of sheer embarrassment, to retrace my steps and undo everything I’ve done. Here is my solution:

  • Tip 1: Channel your late night energy and be productive but don’t publish anything until the next morning (preferably after a cup of coffee).

This will ensure that you won’t do anything you’ll regret. During your creative tirade, prepare everything you’ve got flowing from your brain. Set it all up so it is ready to publish or implement but don’t actually do it. Go to bed. This will allow you to “sleep” on your idea. Once you wake up (albeit with a level head) you can review what you’ve prepared and then publish.

Remember, once you post something on the internet, it is generally there to stay. These days, posting online has become so easy but we must never forget that posting online is serious business, especially if you are trying to create a respectable web presence.
